Put it on a stick.

One folder holds the program for each computer and the ledger they share. Copy it anywhere, run it, unplug.

Detecting your system…

Set up a USB stick

Pick your drive and this page copies the whole Cointrail folder onto it — every computer’s program, a first-run ledger and a note for next time. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is installed on the computer.

Your browser asks which drive to write to, and only writes there. Format the stick exFAT so Mac, Windows and Linux can all read and write it (and everything stays runnable on each).

Needs Chrome, Edge or Safari 15.2+ — otherwise use the plain zip downloads below.

Plain downloads

One zip per computer.

Unzip with the built-in tools and run it in place. Every zip keeps its data/ folder next to the program.

Looking for the latest release…

Reading releases.json

Every download is checksummed. The SHA-256 under each button is the one this page verified before offering it. To check one yourself: shasum -a 256 on a Mac, certutil -hashfile … SHA256 on Windows, sha256sum on Linux.

After the first run

A data/ folder appears beside the program. It holds cointrail.json — your whole ledger — and cointrail.csv when you export a spreadsheet. That folder is everything: back it up, or don’t, it’s one file.

Cointrail/
data/ ← created on first run
    cointrail.json
  Cointrail.app / Cointrail.exe / cointrail
  README.txt

First time on a Mac: right-click the app and choose Open — it isn’t signed. Windows may say “More info → Run anyway”. On Linux, chmod +x cointrail if your file system forgot the execute bit.

Not sure yet?

The demo runs the real app in your browser with a sample month.
